Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse (PACU RN) – Variable Shifts

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse (PACU RN) for a contract assignment providing care to patients in pre-operative, Phase I, and Phase II recovery. The ideal candidate has strong critical care skills, excellent assessment abilities, and experience monitoring patients following surgical procedures.
Assignment Details:
- Contract duration: 26 weeks
- Schedule: Variable shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours) — Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays
- Setting: PACU / Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU)
- No guarantee of hours or shift preference
- On-call requirement: Approximately 0–3 times per month (night and weekend/holiday call)
- EMR: EPIC
- Holiday coverage required
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide pre-operative and post-anesthesia care (Phase I & II recovery)
- Perform patient assessments and monitor airway, vital signs, incision sites, and recovery status
- Identify complications and intervene appropriately
- Administer medications and manage pain control
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
- Educate patients and families on recovery and discharge instructions
Equipment / Systems Used:
- Patient monitoring systems
- IV infusion pumps and PCA pumps
- Medication dispensing systems
- Compression devices, warming devices, and specialty recovery equipment
Requirements:
- Active State RN license required by start of assignment (must apply upon offer if not currently active)
- Minimum 2 years of PACU experience preferred
- Critical care RN experience (ER or ICU) may be accepted in place of PACU experience
- Ability to work variable shifts including weekends, holidays, and on-call
Required Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Recommended / Preferred Certifications:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Trauma certification (e.g., TNCC)
Additional Requirements:
- Proof of flu vaccination or approved exemption prior to contract start (may be completed during employee health clearance)
- Must complete required onboarding and employee health appointment prior to start
