Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse – Med-Surg ICU

 

Location: Omaha, NE

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (03/16/2026 – 06/15/2026)

Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift (18:30 – 06:30) | 36 Hours Guaranteed

 

Job Summary

A Level I Trauma Center and the primary tertiary hospital. The Med-Surg ICU is a high-volume, 34-bed unit that serves as a teaching environment for residents and fellows. This is a fast-paced setting perfect for a critical care nurse who thrives in a collaborative, academic atmosphere and is looking to gain exposure to advanced interventions like CRRT and Impella.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Critical Care Management: Manage a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio for ICU patients, including those with Sepsis, ARDS, Multi-Organ Dysfunction (MODS), and Cardiogenic Shock.
  • Drip Titration: Independently titrate high-acuity drips including Vasopressors, Paralytics, Sedation, and Antiarrhythmics.
  • Advanced Monitoring: Utilize Draeger heart monitoring systems; RNs are responsible for independent rhythm interpretation as there are no monitor techs.
  • Procedural Support: Assist with and manage Arterial lines, Central Venous Pressure (CVP) monitoring, and Swan-Ganz catheters.
  • Stroke & Neuro Care: Support the thrombectomy program by caring for neurosurgery and stroke patients (NIHSS proficiency required).
  • Floating: Must be willing to float to all inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU) to support the hospital's tertiary volume flexes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience.
  • Licensure: Active Nebraska State RN License or Multi-State Compact License required at submission.
  • Certifications: * BLS & ACLS (AHA).
    • NIHSS (Stroke Certification).
  • Skills Exam: Must pass an Open-Book Skills Exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher.
  • Grooming: Artificial nails are strictly prohibited and will result in contract termination if not removed.

Unit Specifics & Equipment

  • Bed Capacity: 34 Beds.
  • Technology: Epic EMR, Draeger monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard (hypothermia protocol), and Bell Mont rapid transfusers.
  • Staffing: Charge Nurse available 24/7 (attends RRTs and Codes); PCT support at 1:18.
  • Team Dynamic: Strong collaborative environment with attendings, fellows, and residents.

Financial & Policy Notes

  • Radius Rule: Permanent address must be >50 miles from the facility.
  • Conflict of Interest: Cannot be currently employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit facility
  • RTO: All requested time off (7 days max) must be submitted upfront.
  • Cancellation: Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
