Registered Nurse – Exciting Opportunity in Pediatric Cardiac Care at UF Health Shands Hospital
Join one of Florida’s most esteemed medical institutions as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UF Health Shands Hospital. This role offers a unique chance to work in a top-ranked, Level 1 Trauma and Teaching hospital renowned for its excellence in pediatric care. In this pivotal role, you will provide advanced nursing care for a diverse range of pediatric acute patients within the open heart PCICU and PICU, supporting critical recovery efforts and making a meaningful difference in young lives. With a contract duration of 13 weeks, this position also provides valuable travel experience, boosts your professional portfolio, and fosters growth within a leading healthcare system.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Level 2 / 3 PCICU (open heart PICU) nursing, specifically in open heart surgery
- 2-3 years of current RN experience
- Recent EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) experience
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications current at time of application
- Strong ability to interpret EKG rhythms, including lethal arrhythmias, with a minimum score of 80% on tests
- Proven travel nursing experience preferred
- Valid FL or compact RN license
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience floating between units
- Prior experience in academic medical settings
- Knowledge of bed management and facility types in EMR
- Excellent critical thinking and clinical assessment skills
Preferred Education and Experience:
- RN licensure with at least 3 years of specialized pediatric cardiac ICU experience
- Demonstrated competency in managing complex, critical pediatric cases
- Ability to pass specialty and EKG tests successfully
Other Requirements:
- Must be open to floating across units
- Willingness to work 12-hour night shifts, including holidays and weekends
- Ability to pass a basic skills and EKG interpretation exam upon orientation
- Proof of flu vaccination or valid medical exemption is mandatory before start; allergy to eggs is not an exemption
- No recent job gaps over 30 days without explanation
- RTO (Request to Off-Board) submission limited to 6 days for the 13-week contract
