This role is primarily based in the ED Holding/PCU unit, managing patients who have been admitted but are awaiting an inpatient bed. While the unit is physically located near the Emergency Department, you will function as a Progressive Care nurse, not an ER nurse. You must be highly flexible, as you will serve as a primary float resource for the facility and its sister campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Progressive Care Management: Provide specialized care for adult and geriatric patients with high-acuity needs, including those requiring continuous cardiac monitoring.
  • Admission Holding: Manage the transition of patients from the ED to the PCU level of care, ensuring stability and starting inpatient treatment protocols.
  • Flexible Floating: Act as the "first to float" to various PCU units within Health Park or to sister campuses within the Lee Health system as needed.
  • Advanced Monitoring: Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and manage patients requiring titration of standard PCU-level drips and telemetry.
  • Patient Advocacy: Maintain safe ratios of 4:6 (depending on patient mix) while functioning as a core member of the nursing staff.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience is required. (Note: ED experience is not required as you will not be performing ER nursing duties).
  • Licensure: Active Florida State RN License or Multi-State Compact License (Recent Nursys report must be on profile).
  • Certifications: * BLS (AHA)
    • ACLS (AHA)
    • NIHSS (Stroke Certification)
  • Education: Degree accreditation must be on your profile, or you must have 5+ years of experience.
  • Culture Fit: Travelers are expected to integrate seamlessly and perform at the level of permanent core staff.

Unit & Staffing Details

  • Ratios: 1:4 to 1:6 (Acuity-based).
  • Population: Predominantly Adult and Geriatric.
  • Floating Policy: Floating is a mandatory requirement of this position. You may be sent to other Lee Health campuses in the Fort Myers area.
  • Dress Code: Galaxy Blue and White scrubs.

Financial & Submission Notes

  • Radius Rule: Permanent address must be >50 miles from the facility.
  • RTO/Schedule Requests: Must be included at the time of submission. The facility will not approve any requests made after the submittal.
  • Documentation: Hard deadline for all documents is the Monday prior to the start date. No exceptions for pending documents.
  • Overtime: Daily OT after 24 hours (based on differential); Weekly OT after 40 hours.
