Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry/Med-Surg

Location: South Charleston, West Virginia
Unit: 4 Pavilion - Telemetry
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Beds: 32
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients with cardiopulmonary diagnoses such as CHF, chest pain, post-cardiac catheterization (mostly femoral, some radial)
• Common Drips: Nitro (chest pain only), Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, Dopamine (low dose for renal perfusion)
• Equipment: IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximeters, specialty beds, telemetry, CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen
• Support Staff: Monitor techs 24/7; charge nurses read strips; RNs review strips each shift
• Floating: May be required to float to Med-Surg units (3P or 5P) or Emergency Department for boarded patients

Schedule & Work Environment

• Shifts:

  • Day: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Night: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (rotating schedule)
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating with core staff, with some preference possible after tenure
• Dress Code:

  • RNs/LPNs: Navy solid color scrubs
  • Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs
  • No embroidery or patterns on scrubs
• Orientation:

  • General hospital orientation (first day)
  • Full day nursing orientation
  • Computer training (full day for nurses)
  • Two 12-hour orientation shifts with preceptor
  • Initial skills checklist due within 90 days

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
• Experience:

  • Med-Surg and Telemetry experience required
  • Experience with critical drips required
  • Chemotherapy experience preferred
• Skills:

  • Ability to titrate drips (Yes)
• Prior Travel Experience: Required

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse role may be offered to travelers willing to be cross-trained
• Nurse aides available with ratios: 7 AM–7 PM (1:10), 7 PM–7 AM (1:15)
• Block scheduling allowed with manager approval and unit needs considered
