Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Tech (IR Tech)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Interventional Radiology (IR Tech)
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (5x8s)
  • Daily Caseload: Approximately 4 cases per tech
  • On-call: Yes, rotation between two other techs
  • Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
  • Floating: No floating between units or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Interventional Radiology Technologist experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ARRT (R) certification

Facility & Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Tertiary Hospital
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrubs: OR scrubs provided by facility
  • Parking: Free
  • Local Radius: 60 miles (locals not accepted)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June - November)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if verification pending
  • Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified (not required for this facility)
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually as applicable
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Immunizations & Health:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if low titer
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted (no declinations)
    • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing travelers
  • Radiation Badge: Required for OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, and Radiology travelers; not required for MRI, Mammography, or Ultrasound Techs

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for Florence campus
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
  • Acknowledgments & Agreements: Must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request prior to start
  • Employee Info: Must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Block scheduling requests require manager approval and depend on unit needs
  • Facility may call off shifts but guarantees hours with some flexibility
  • Travelers should be prepared for potential emergency assignments during hurricane season

This position is ideal for an Interventional Radiology Tech with at least 1 year of IR experience, appropriate certifications, and readiness to work a standard weekday schedule with some weekend rotation in a tertiary hospital setting.
