Job Description:
Medical Technologist (MT) / Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Location: 4100 West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428
Period of Performance: 6-Month Base + 6-Month Option
Position Overview:
The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will provide onsite laboratory services within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS) department at the Dayton VA Medical Center. This support is critical during implementation of the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) system.
All laboratory services must meet or exceed nationally recognized standards as established by the College of American Pathologists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform moderate and high complexity laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct testing in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, coagulation, urinalysis, and blood bank (as applicable).
- Analyze, interpret, and verify test results.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of laboratory data.
- Perform quality control (QC) procedures and instrument calibration.
- Troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and test systems.
- Maintain compliance with CAP, VA, and federal laboratory regulations.
- Accurately document and enter results into laboratory information systems.
- Support workflow during EHRM implementation.
- Follow all Dayton VAMC bylaws, policies, and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 24 months of clinical laboratory experience as MT or MLT.
Certification Requirements:
Medical Technologist (MT) – Must Meet One of the Following:
- Generalist certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP – Board of Certification)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Generalist certification as MT from ASCP (BOR) or AMT
- Categorical or Specialist certification from ASCP or AMT
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – Must Hold Current Certification From:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP – BOC or BOR)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- American Association of Bioanalysts
