Job Opportunity: Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Floating: Required as per facility needs
  • Start Date: ASAP

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of recent Med Surg/Telemetry nursing experience (within the past year)
  • Higher years of experience not indicated, so 1 year is required
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Med Surg/Telemetry nursing skills
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Peripheral line care and management
  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid New York State RN License
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Peripheral line care and management
  • Oxygen administration
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions

Additional Requirements

  • Recent experience within the past year is mandatory
  • Pass/fail telemetry assessment on first day of orientation (minimum 80% score) covering:
    • Cardiac rhythm interpretation including heart blocks, arrhythmias, paced rhythms
    • Understanding telemetry strip intervals
    • Appropriate clinical interventions for arrhythmias
  • Nurses are responsible for independently measuring and interpreting telemetry strips (no telemetry techs employed)
  • Call-off policy: Maximum 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
  • Background checks and verifications required prior to start (including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by licensed provider
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years or declination
    • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunity
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
  • Professional references and skills checklist required
  • Facility-specific documents and acknowledgements must be reviewed and signed
