Patient Population

Primary Focus: Cardiac Medical & Surgical Patients

Common Diagnoses / Cases:

• Post Cath Lab: Stent, Pacemaker, ICD, Watchman, Mitral Clip, TAVR
• Post Cardiac Surgery: CABG, Valve Replacements
• A-fib
• Chest Pain
• CHF
• Arrhythmias
• Syncope
• Bradycardia (temporary pacemaker)

Required Experience (Must-Have Skills)

• Post-procedural cath lab patient care
• TR Band compression device management
• Chest pain management
• Post cardiac surgical patient experience

Ratios

• Days (until 2300): 1:4
• Nights (after 2300): 1:5–6

Drips

RN must titrate drips (no vasopressors on unit)

Common drips:

• Nitroglycerin
• Heparin
• Diltiazem
• Amiodarone
• Lasix
• Bumex
• Dobutamine

Telemetry

• 24/7 Central Telemetry Monitoring Unit
• Tele techs monitor all non-critical care patients
• Tele strips completed by central monitoring

Support Staff

• Charge RN: Takes modified assignment
• Nurse Aides Ratios:
  • Days: 1:10
  • PM: 1:10–12
  • After 2300: 1:15 (may vary if all-RN model)
• Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
  • RT handles: Nebs, inhalers, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm (High Flow)
  • RNs responsible for Incentive Spirometry

Scheduling

• No self-scheduling
• Block scheduling available (based on unit needs)
• Fri/Sat/Sun option available
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No call requirement (unless picking up extra shift)
• Floating as needed based on census

Dress Code

• No scrubs provided
• No specific scrub color
