Unit Notes
– Echo/Vascular required. Under the general supervision of the Leader of Cardiopulmonary – and according to professional standards and practices – provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for disorders of the respiratory, cardiac, and vascular systems upon receiving written prescriptions from the physician. These duties also include collaborating with the medical staff and other Healthcare professionals to develop a plan of care for the patient as well as plan education of the patient and family members regarding procedures of the Cardiopulmonary Department.
General job duties.
Types of procedures required. complete cardiac echo on adults Ability to scan adult patients. Ability so scan pediatric patients would be a plus, but not required.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Leader of Cardiopulmonary.
Supervision Exercised: None
Essential Interactions: Interacts with patients and their families, collaborates with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff to develop patient care plans, interacts with other hospital staff for services, supplies and other related functions. Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
Unusual Physical Demands: Pushing the ultrasound machine for portable studies. Positioning the ultrasound transducer in awkward positions for lengthy exams.
Equipment, Machines, Tools, Materials and Work Aides: Various types of ultrasound imaging systems, physiologic doppler systems, EKG acquisition machines, computers with specific application programs, Holter monitor and stress testing equipment and other such equipment as technology changes. Stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers and other such aides are used.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an approved school of an Allied Health Field with additional training in ultrasound procedures. Must be registered in Adult Vascular and ECHO by either American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Knowledge of AIC accreditation preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: BLS certification is required. Must be knowledgeable of the proper performance of both vascular and cardiac diagnostic testing.
