Position Overview

Centennial Medical Center is seeking an experienced Travel CVICU Registered Nurse to join our award‑winning Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. This 16‑bed, high‑acuity unit specializes in caring for immediate post‑operative cardiac surgery patients, including those requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support. Travel nurses will work alongside a highly skilled clinical team, including 24/7 intensivist coverage and five full‑time cardiothoracic surgeons performing high‑volume, advanced surgical procedures.

Unit Details

• Beds: 16
• Patient Ratios: 1:2 standard; 1:1 for select device‑dependent patients
• Support Staff:
  • Free‑floating charge nurse
  • Unit Secretary & Administrative Care Tech (Mon–Fri, 0730–1530)
  • Student Nurse Externs assisting with tech duties on variable shifts
• Equipment Used:
  • Philips bedside telemetry monitors
  • Hill‑Rom beds
  • Alaris IV pumps
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

• Weekends: 2 per month
• Holidays:
  • 1 Summer Holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
  • 2 Winter Holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day)

Floating Policy

Travel nurses may float as needed—typically to other ICU units but may include general floors when necessary.

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS

Required Experience / Skill Set

Must Have

• Strong critical care background
• CVICU experience required
• Competency with hemodynamic monitoring & PA catheters

Preferred Advanced Skills

• Experience with:
  • Intra‑Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
  • Impella
  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Procedures & Patient Population

Travel nurses will provide care for:

• Immediate post‑operative cardiac surgery patients
• ECMO patients
• CentriMag and HM3 LVAD patients
• Other high‑acuity cardiac cases

Procedures performed on the unit include:

• Central line insertion
• Swan-Ganz catheter insertion
• Intubations
• Various bedside critical care interventions

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Black, red, or galaxy blue
• Scrub jackets/vests allowed (matching colors preferred per guidelines)
