🩺 Unit Details – Med-Surg w/ Tele

• Unit Size: 51 beds
• Patient Population: Adults
• Care Type: Acute Med-Surg with Telemetry
• Common Diagnoses:
  • CHF, COPD, Diabetes
  • Post-op Ortho, Urology, GI
  • Dementia, End-of-life care
  • General medical (excluding ICU, Psych, Women & Children)

👩‍⚕️ Nurse Requirements (Strict)

• Experience Required:
  • 5 years Med-Surg Tele OR 3 years Tele required
  • Minimum 2 years total clinical experience
  • Prior travel experience REQUIRED
  • Must have completed:
    • 2 travel assignments in 300+ bed facilities OR
    • Previous experience at any UVMHN acute care facility
• Certifications Required:
  • AHA BLS
  • AHA ACLS
  • NIHSS (before start date)
• Telemetry Skills Required:
  • Apply leads
  • Interpret rhythms
  • Actively respond/intervene
• Hands-On Skills:
  • NG tube insertion
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • Tele strip interpretation

📊 Ratios & Support

• RN Ratio:
  • Days: 1:3–5
  • Nights: 1:4–6
• LNA/CNA Support: 1:8–10
• Charge Nurse: 24/7 (no patient assignment)
• Unit Secretary: 6 AM – 10 PM most days
• RT & Anesthesia: 24/7 support
• Ventilators Managed By: Respiratory Therapy

⏰ Schedule & Work Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours (option to pick up 8s)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Required
• Call: No
• Self-Scheduling: Yes (When-To-Work system)
• Floating: Infrequent, to like units only
• Charge Role: Not required

🎓 Orientation

• 1–2 precepted shifts
• Additional educator time before patient contact
