Shift & Schedule

• 12 Hour Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Start Date: 4/27
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Call: None

Facility Overview

• Location: Ellsworth, ME
• Hospital Beds: 64
• Level III Nursery
• Annual Deliveries: ~200 births per year

Unit Beds

• Labor: 4 beds
• Postpartum: 4 beds

Experience Requirements

• Minimum Experience: 2 years L&D
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted with 3+ years L&D experience

Patient Population

• LDRP Unit (Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum & Couplet Care)
• Low-risk deliveries (high-risk transferred out)

Common Cases

• Postpartum hemorrhage
• Pre-eclampsia
• HELLP syndrome
• Bilirubin babies
• NAS babies
• Feeders/growers

Additional Patients

• Occasional Med/Surg overflow
  • Low acuity IV antibiotics
  • Swing bed / rehab patients
  • No telemetry or infectious patients
• Rooming-in model
  • No dedicated nursery RN
  • RN cares for mother and baby

Patient Ratios (AWHONN Guidelines)

• Laboring: 1:2
• Active Labor: 1:1
• Couplets: 1:3–4
• Med/Surg: 1:2–3

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• STABLE (must complete within 30 days of start)

Required Skills

• Full LDRP experience required
• Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care
• Care of well newborns

Labor & Delivery Skills

• Shoulder dystocia management
• Epidural management
• Nitrous oxide administration
• Intrathecal spinal analgesia

C-Section Role

• Attend deliveries to receive newborn and provide neonatal care
• Not required to circulate

Newborn Care

• Vital signs
• Thermoregulation
• Hypoglycemia management
• Bilirubin monitoring
• NAS newborn care

Technology

• Charting System: Cerner

Floating

• Possible to Med/Surg or ED for tasking only
• No patient assignments when floated
