NICU RN – D/N Rotator – Boston, MA
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (04/06/2026 – 07/04/2026)
Shift: 3x12-Hour Day/Night Rotation
Job Summary
A world-class Harvard Medical School affiliate, is seeking two specialized NICU Registered Nurses for their state-of-the-art Newborn Intensive Care Unit (CWN 6). As the largest NICU in New England and a Level III/IV regional referral center, BWH provides advanced multidisciplinary care for over 3,000 premature and critically ill infants annually. This role requires an elite neonatal clinician capable of managing high-acuity patients, including extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants and those with complex surgical or neurological needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Critical Neonatal Care: Provide intensive care for infants born as early as 23 weeks, including respiratory management (conventional ventilation, oscillating vents, and CPAP).
- High-Acuity Stability: Manage infants with major structural complications, serious inherited disorders, or life-threatening conditions requiring specialized monitoring.
- Neurocritical Care: Utilize advanced techniques to promote crucial brain development and monitor infants undergoing therapeutic hypothermia protocols.
- Family-Centered Care: Integrate parents into the care team through education, skin-to-skin (Kangaroo care) support, and multidisciplinary huddles.
- Surgical Support: Prep and recover neonates for complex bedside or OR-based surgical procedures in coordination with Boston Children’s Hospital specialists.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent Level III or Level IV NICU experience in a high-volume acute care facility.
- Education: BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) is typically required for BWH travel contracts.
- Licensure: Active Massachusetts State RN License (Conditional licenses not accepted).
- Certifications: * BLS (AHA) – Required.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required.
- RNC-NIC – Preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in high-flow oxygen delivery, umbilical line maintenance, and neonatal pharmacology.
Unit & Facility Details
- Department: CWN 6 NICU Staff (BW4520).
- Unit Size: 66-bed Level III/IV unit (The Smith Family NICU).
- Shift Details: 3x12s, rotating between days and nights.
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week scheduling period.
- Location: Boston, MA 02115.
Financial & Logistics Notes
- Start Date: ASAP (Targeting 04/06/2026).
- On-Call: Mandatory call requirement as per unit policy.
- Critical Order: Urgency Level 2.
- Onboarding: Must complete MGB N95 Fit Testing and health compliance (including Titers/TB) within strict deadlines.
