Description
Surgical Technician – CVOR – Hartford, CT
Contract Duration: 12 Weeks (03/23/2026 – 06/20/2026)
Shift: 12-Hour Days (07:00 – 19:30 typical) | 36 Hours Guaranteed
On-Call: Mandatory rotating overnight call; Every Other Weekend (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH) commitment.
Job Summary:
A premier Level 1 Trauma Center, is seeking an elite CVOR Surgical Technician. This role is located within a high-volume, high-acuity surgical environment specializing in life-saving cardiovascular interventions. You will support a world-class surgical team in performing complex procedures including open-heart surgeries, thoracic reconstructions, and organ transplants. This position requires extreme technical precision, rapid critical thinking, and the ability to maintain a meticulous sterile field under high-pressure trauma conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Cardiac & Vascular Scrub: Act as the primary scrub for advanced procedures such as CABG, valve replacements, aortic aneurysm repairs, and LVAD placements.
- Transplant Support: Assist in heart and lung transplant surgeries, requiring specialized knowledge of organ procurement and implantation protocols.
- Thoracic & Pulmonary: Support complex lung resections, VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery), and esophageal procedures.
- Instrumentation Management: Expertly manage specialized CVOR equipment, including sternal saws, vascular clips, and micro-sutures.
- Emergency Preparedness: Maintain readiness for "crash" starts, specifically for acute aortic dissections or cardiac traumas arriving via the Level 1 Trauma bays.
- Sterile Field Integrity: Ensure strict adherence to aseptic technique in a high-traffic academic OR environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certification: Must be NBSTSA Certified (CST) – Non-negotiable.
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated CVOR experience. Proven proficiency in cardiovascular, pulmonary, thoracic, and transplant service lines is required.
- Trauma Experience: Previous experience in a Level 1 Trauma or high-volume academic medical center is highly preferred.
- Shift Flexibility: Primarily day shifts, but must be willing to rotate to evenings as needed for case completion.
- Call Requirement: Must live within a 30-minute response radius while on the rotating overnight call schedule.
