Description

Position Overview

  • Role: Med Surg ICU RN
  • Shift: 12-Hour Days (06:30 AM – 06:30 PM)
  • Interview: Unit Manager Interview Required
  • Contract: 13 Weeks

📋 Important Submission Rules

  • 50-mile radius rule – Candidate must live more than 50 miles away from the facility.
  • Driver’s License required at submission to verify distance.
  • Candidate cannot currently work (FT/PT/PRN) at any CommonSpirit / CHI / Dignity facility.

🏥 Unit Details

  • Beds: 34
  • Patient Ratios:
    • ICU: 1:1 – 1:2
    • PCU: 1:4 – 1:5
    • Med Surg: 1:5 – 1:6
  • Patient Types:
    • Adults & Pediatrics 15+ years old
    • Respiratory failure / ARDS
    • Sepsis
    • Stroke
    • Cardiogenic shock
    • Renal failure (CRRT)
    • GI bleeds
    • General surgery & cancer surgeries

💉 Skills Required

  • Must titrate drips
  • Common drips include:
    • Vasopressors
    • Sedation
    • Paralytics
    • Narcotics
    • Antiarrhythmics
  • Equipment exposure may include:
    • Ventilators
    • CRRT
    • Impella / Balloon Pump (experience preferred but not required)
    • CVP, A-lines, Swans
    • ICP monitoring

📜 Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

🧑‍⚕️ Support Staff

  • Charge Nurse: Yes (responds to codes/RRT)
  • Techs: Yes – ratio 1:18
  • Telemetry: RNs must read their own strips (Draeger system)

📅 Scheduling

  • Every other weekend required
  • 2 major holidays out of 3
  • Manager creates the schedule.

🔄 Floating

  • Required to float to all inpatient units except NICU and Maternity.

🎓 Orientation & Testing

  • 2 orientation shifts
  • Open-book exam on Friday during orientation
  • Must score 90% to pass or contract is terminated.
