Common Patient Types

• Post-thoracotomy patients (directly from PACU)
• CABG patients approximately 24 hours post-op
• Stent placements and post PCI patients
• NSTEMI patients
• Vascular procedures
• Tracheostomy patients

  • BiPAP or CPAP
• Chest tubes

Note: Pacer wires are usually removed in the ICU.

Required Skills and Experience

Required experience includes:

• Pre and post stent care
• Pacemaker patients
• ICD patients
• Pre and post CABG care
• Vascular procedure recovery

Preference is given to nurses with stepdown experience rather than basic telemetry experience.

IV Drips

Some drips are titratable while others are not.

Common titratable drips:

• Cardizem
• Amiodarone
• Nitroglycerin
• Integrelin

Non-titrated drips:

• Dobutamine
• Dopamine

Respiratory Equipment

Equipment used on the unit includes:

• BiPAP
• CPAP
• Home ventilators

Home ventilator experience is not required.

Shifts and Scheduling

• Shift length: 12 hours
• Shift time: 06:45 – 18:45
