Job Title: RN – Med/Surg Oncology
Location: Billings, Montana
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 13 Weeks with possible extension
Shift: Night Shift (12 Hours)
Schedule: 3 Days per Week / 36 Hours per Week
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Oncology is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in an oncology acute care setting. The RN performs independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions in accordance with accepted nursing practice standards and the state Board of Nursing guidelines. The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while supporting patients undergoing oncology treatments and managing complex medical-surgical conditions.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuously evaluate health status through ongoing data collection.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and medical conditions.
- Provide direct nursing care including administration of medications, treatments, and therapies.
- Monitor and evaluate therapy and treatment plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families regarding health conditions, treatments, and care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care.
- Document patient care activities in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide supportive and restorative care to promote patient health and well-being.
- Execute delegated medical functions within scope of practice.
- Refer patients for additional evaluation or treatment when necessary.
- Float to other departments within scope of competency based on operational needs.
- Participate in on-call duties when required during scheduled shifts.
- Support organizational mission, vision, and service standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced oncology acute care environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practices and oncology care principles.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting, preferably in oncology or medical-surgical units.
Requirements
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited School of Nursing – Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Preferred
Licensure and Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- ACLS / NRP / PALS certifications as required by the unit or service
