(List in order of importance) List of Job Duties
1. Delivers accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
Educates patient regarding the procedure, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment.
Reinforces radiation oncologist’s advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
Prepares room and equipment for patient according to prescription regarding immobilizations devices, field size, treatment distance, lead protection devices, etc.
Transfers patient safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, IV drips, etc.
Checks daily treatment prescription and delivers prescribed dose.
Maintains visual and/or audible communications with the patient during treatment.
Maintains patient markings.
Observes patient for unusual reactions and events.
Documents/reports same to staff nurse and/or radiation oncologist.
Assists in emergency treatment of same
CT scans – for treatment plan.
Observes radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
Maintains records of daily treatment and other records as required.
2. Assists in tumor localization procedures (simulation) preparation of molds, casts, preparation of patient immobilization devices, documents parameters, collates information and disseminates it to dosimetry for treatment planning.
Checks beam directional devices, protective devices, heavy and dangerous equipment and keeps records of same under supervision of physicist.
3. Provides initial warm-up procedures for therapy equipment as required by manufacturer and physicist.
Assists in dosimetry procedures.
Secures and maintains supplies.
Secures x-rays and lab reports as needed.
Reports erratic operation of equipment to Technical Manager, Radiation Oncologist, Radiation Physicist, and Biomedical Engineers.
Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of therapy equipment.
Ensures daily/weekly imaging orders are followed
Maintains billing documentation for each patient on a daily basis.
4. Assists in follow-up clinic and other clinical examinations of patient.
Reinforces/documents patient education for all patient age groups.
Assists in student supervision/evaluation.
Attends department conferences/meetings.
Education/experience/licensing:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; satisfactorily completion of formal radiologic technology training majoring in radiation therapy in an accredited school and meets the requirements for registry by the ARRT.
Must hold current license as required by State of Ohio Department of Health.
Must provide documentation of continuing education required by the ARRT to ensure high competence level.
Required to be CPR certified.
• Demonstrates clinical competency in caring for patients as identified in unit’s Scope of Care. Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in the following stages of the life cycle: infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Actively participates in performance improvement activities as related to job duties.
