Job Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Shift: 4x12 hour shifts, rotating day/night (07:00-19:00 / 19:00-07:00)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
• Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio on MedSurg
• First Time Traveler: Accepted
• Local Radius Requirement: Must live within 75 miles of the facility
• Charting System: Must have EPIC experience

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
• NIH Stroke Certification (to be updated annually)

Required Licensure

• New York RN License - Must have license in hand before start, no exceptions

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
• IV therapy and phlebotomy including peripheral line care/management
• Respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management
• Adherence to isolation precautions

Unit Description

• Acute Stroke Unit with 39 beds specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders as well as acute medical patients
• Provides evidence-based care with an adjustable acuity delivery model focused on stroke prevention and acute care

Required Background & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check (including felony, SSN trace, national sex offender, education verification) within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and updated monthly
• Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Education verification from primary source required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
• Immunizations and health requirements including:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
• Fit mask test within 1 year (specific acceptable mask types)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
• Color blindness testing (one-time)
• Competency exams as required by specialty
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
• Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York, must have license in hand before start
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with use of Rapid Response and Code teams
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry experience, who holds a current New York RN license and is comfortable working in a fast-paced acute stroke and neurological care environment. Prior travel experience is not required.
