Description
Job Title: Physical Therapist (PT)
Contract Length: 26 Weeks
Setting: Hospital-Based and Village-Based Care
Schedule: Full-Time Contract
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist (PT) for a 26-week contract to provide high-quality rehabilitation services in both hospital and community (village-based) settings. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population while delivering individualized treatment plans that support recovery, mobility, and improved quality of life.
The ideal candidate is adaptable, culturally aware, and comfortable providing therapy services in both structured clinical environments and community-based settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and develop individualized physical therapy treatment plans for patients
- Provide therapeutic interventions including exercise programs, manual therapy, and rehabilitation modalities
- Utilize modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, whirlpool therapy, and therapeutic exercise equipment in hospital settings
- Deliver patient care in village-based environments, bringing appropriate treatment tools such as therabands and exercise programs
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation and medical correspondence
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary care teams
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and rehabilitation goals
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program
- Licensed in good standing in Alaska as a Physical Therapist, OR
- Have all appropriate FSBPT paperwork completed to work as a Student Physical Therapist post-graduation while studying for licensure
- Current BLS certification required
- No minimum clinical experience required (Hospital-based experience preferred)
Work Environment
Hospital-Based Setting Includes:
- Hi-lo treatment tables
- Whirlpool therapy
- Therapeutic exercise equipment
- Ultrasound and electrical stimulation modalities
Village-Based Setting:
- Typically includes a treatment table
- Therapists bring portable treatment tools such as therabands and exercise materials for patient care
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical literature and physical therapy publications
- Ability to compose clear patient documentation and medical correspondence
- Strong communication skills with medical staff, peers, administrative personnel, and patients
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients from different cultural backgrounds, including individuals who may not speak English
- Proficiency with personal computers, MS Office programs, email, and internet research
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including units of measure, fractions, ratios, percentages, and interpretation of graphs for clinical documentation and analysis
