DESCRIPTION:

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU (Phase I & Phase II)
Location: Bridgeport, CT
Department: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Schedule: 40 Hours per Week | Staggered Shifts + Call

Call Requirement:

• Weekend call required
• Approximately 3–4 call shifts within a 6-week schedule period

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Phase I and Phase II PACU care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia.
• Monitor vital signs, airway status, neurological status, and hemodynamic stability.
• Manage pain, nausea, and post-anesthesia complications.
• Administer medications and IV therapies according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
• Utilize Epic Systems for documentation and patient charting.
• Communicate patient status effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepare patients for discharge or transfer to inpatient units once recovery criteria are met.
• Educate patients and families regarding post-operative care and recovery expectations.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2+ years of PACU nursing experience (Phase I & II preferred)
• License: Active and clear Connecticut RN License or Compact RN License
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient monitoring skills
