DESCRIPTION:
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU (Phase I & Phase II)
Location: Bridgeport, CT
Department: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Schedule: 40 Hours per Week | Staggered Shifts + Call
Call Requirement:
- Weekend call required
- Approximately 3–4 call shifts within a 6-week schedule period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Phase I and Phase II PACU care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia.
- Monitor vital signs, airway status, neurological status, and hemodynamic stability.
- Manage pain, nausea, and post-anesthesia complications.
- Administer medications and IV therapies according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
- Utilize Epic Systems for documentation and patient charting.
- Communicate patient status effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Prepare patients for discharge or transfer to inpatient units once recovery criteria are met.
- Educate patients and families regarding post-operative care and recovery expectations.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of PACU nursing experience (Phase I & II preferred)
- License: Active and clear Connecticut RN License or Compact RN License
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient monitoring skills
