Position Summary

• Unit: Outpatient Surgery (Pre-op only)
• Capacity: 15 Bays
• Patient Population: Neuro, Open Hearts, Pediatrics/ENT, Vascular, Podiatry, Ortho, General Surgery, Endoscopy, Thoracic, Gynecology.
• Role Scope: Pre-op only. This is not a PACU/recovery position.

Shift & Schedule

• Schedule: 5, 8-hour shifts.
• Shift Times: Mostly 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, with occasional 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM shifts (roughly 4 days a month).
• Late Shift: The 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM shift acts as the "late" nurse, remaining until the last patient is transferred to surgery.
• Scheduling: No self-scheduling. 4 requested days off per month are permitted.
• Call/Weekends/Holidays: No call, no weekends, no holidays.

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1 RN to 2 patient bays.
• Support Staff: 2 Unit Aids (one is a float who may be pulled to other departments).
• Charge Nurse: Patient-free.
• Floating: No floating.

Required Skills & Experience

• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
• Experience/Skills: Strong IV therapy skills required, must be able to read cardiac rhythms/strips.
• EMR: Epic.

Additional Notes

• Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrubs (ScrubEx machine).
• Orientation: Unit-specific orientation to Outpatient Surgery.
• Future Changes: The department will soon take over endoscopy phone calls and expand duties to include pre-oping patients in the holding area arriving from in-patient floors.
• Occasional Requirements: Preparing patients coming from the ICU.
