Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU

Location: Seguin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a travel RN with ICU experience to support a hospital near San Antonio. The nurse will primarily work in the ICU but must be willing to float to Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) areas as needed.

Schedule & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts, every other weekend required
• Shift times: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM and 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Scheduling made 6 weeks in advance with staff input
• Holidays worked as part of permanent staff rotation

ICU Unit Details

• 9 beds (average daily census 6)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, sometimes 1:1 depending on acuity
• Occasionally 1:3 for post cath lab patients or overflow
• Staffed with minimum 3 nurses (some nights 4)
• Charge nurse role includes full patient load
• 1 CNA available if nurse has more than 3 patients
• EMR system: MediTech Expanse
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Neon Kohden
• Ventilator: Avea
• In-house hospitalist or intensivist during the day; on-call at night
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy not 24/7; pharmacist on-call nights and weekends
• Charting system: Pyxis

Patient Population & Care

• Mainly medical ICU patients: pneumonia, sepsis, acute renal failure, CHF, COPD
• Cardiac drips and post-op care including extubation issues
• Post cath lab patients (sheaths managed by cath lab)
• Some pediatric patients (non-severe, non-intubated)
• Occasional ER float opportunity for non-trauma, non-resuscitation patients

Orientation & Floating

• Orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor after brief HR check-in
• Floating required to Medical, Surgical, or IPRU units (may care for 5-6 patients in Med/Surg)
• ER float possible if experienced, limited to admissions and discharges

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years recent ICU nursing experience (higher years of experience requirement applied)
• Current Texas RN license or compact license
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIHSS and PALS certifications preferred (PALS may be negotiable or obtained onsite)
• Must be independent and comfortable with ICU skill set

• Must be flexible and able to float as needed
• Weekend shifts include both day and night on Saturday and Sunday

This position is ideal for an experienced ICU RN comfortable with a variety of critical care patients and flexible floating assignments.
