Department: Surgical Acute | RN - # Beds: 63 (49 private, 9 observation beds). - Nurse: Patient Ratios: 4-5 /RN days 5-6/RN nights. - Required certifications: BLS - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Post op surgical , trauma, overflow medical, dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, TPN. - Experience or 'Must have' skills: Post-op care of patients, critical thinking skills, ask for help when needed. Good bedside manner, team player. - Are RNs required to titrate drips?: No - Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Heparin only - Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes, they do not take an assignment (Pre-assigned 2 Charge RNs on each shift). House supervisor 24/7. - Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties?: 7-10 patients/PCT-days; 10-15 patients/PC-nights. PCT's assist with vitals, accu checks, ADL's, turning and ambulation. - RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot?: No vents. Cpap and high flow. RT manages nebs, RN's manage inhalers and can place patients on CPAP. - Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: Yes, some patients are on telemetry, Phillips monitor, bedside RNs do not read strips, there is a central station for monitor techs.
