🏥 PCU RN – 5N (Neuro/Trauma Focus Unit)

📍 Unit Overview:

• Beds: 28
• Specialty: Neuro + Trauma/Ortho step-down (PCU)
• Patient Ratio:
  • Days: 1:4–5
  • Nights: 1:5–6 (acuity-based)

🧠 Patient Population:

• Stroke, seizures
• Guillain-Barré, Myasthenia Gravis
• Spinal injuries
• Post-thrombectomy patients
• TNK/TPA (within 24 hrs)
• AMS, dementia
• Trauma: hematomas, bleeds, falls (especially on thinners), farm & MVA accidents

✅ Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of MS / PCU / ICU experience
• Recent experience within last 1 year (REQUIRED)
• Drip/titration experience REQUIRED
• Trach experience preferred (vents training available, must be willing to learn)
• First-time travelers accepted 👍

💉 Drips & Procedures:

• Titration required: Yes
• Common drips: Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, Insulin

🫁 Equipment:

• Vents, Trachs
• CPAP / BiPAP
• Vapotherm
• EtCO2

👩‍⚕️ Support Staff:

• CNAs available
  • Days: 1:9
  • Nights: 1:12
• Charge Nurse:
  • Nights: full assignment
  • Days: lighter assignment

📊 Monitoring:

• Central telemetry monitoring (separate area)

📅 Schedule Details:

• Shift: 12 hrs (7:00–7:30 / 7:00p–7:30a)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling (6 weeks in advance, manager-balanced)
• Travel duos: Same shift not guaranteed

📆 Requirements:

• Weekends: Every other Fri/Sat/Sun
• Holidays:
  • 2 of 3 winter holidays
  • Otherwise every other holiday
• Call: None
• Floating: Yes (to 6 sister MS units: cardiac, ortho, heme/onc, etc.)

🎓 Certifications Required:

• BLS
• NIHSS

👕 Dress Code:

• Any solid color scrubs

🧭 Orientation:

• 1 general shift
• 1 shift with preceptor
