Pay: $ 90 per hour (based on experience and market trends) Housing and Travel covered
Position Summary
The Family Nurse Practitioner is a licensed independent practitioner responsible for managing health problems and coordinating patient care in accordance with Federal regulations, the California Nurse Practice Act, and California Board of Registered Nursing standards. The FNP provides primary and urgent care for all age groups in the ambulatory clinic setting, including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and referral. This role is part of an integrated care team including medical providers, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, eye care, behavioral health, and clerical staff.
The FNP supports RSBCIHI’s mission to provide culturally sensitive care, respect traditional customs of Indian communities, and promote wellness and early intervention.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform age-appropriate history and physical assessments for pediatric and adult patients.
- Interpret historical, physical, diagnostic, and therapeutic data to establish accurate diagnoses.
- Order and interpret lab and radiology studies; document all findings in the medical record.
- Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments within the medication formulary; document treatment plans and follow-up.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members for referrals.
- Implement RSBCIHI objectives including primary care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Ensure adherence to insurance requirements for appropriate reimbursement.
- Demonstrate awareness of Native American cultural and spiritual values; apply cultural sensitivity in all patient interactions.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing, clerical, pharmacy, and laboratory staff to support efficient patient flow.
- Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement, peer review activities, and site-based initiatives.
- Deliver patient care according to RSBCIHI guidelines, including:
- 30-minute chronic care or minor acute visits
- 60-minute annual exams and new patient visits
- Average 12–18 primary care visits per 8-hour shift
- Complete medication refills and patient care tasks in a timely manner
- Submit SOAP note documentation within 24 hours
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP)
- Graduate of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program
Experience
- Two years of experience in an ambulatory care patient setting preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Current and unrestricted:
- California Registered Nurse License
- California Nurse Practitioner License
- California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number
- DEA Controlled Substance Registration
- National Nurse Practitioner Board Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- California Driver’s License (current DMV printout required)
Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with the Indian Community and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
Physical Demands & Environment
- Work performed in a medical clinic with frequent exposure to contagious diseases and occasional exposure to unstable or hostile patients.
- Frequent walking and standing for extended periods; some sitting and lifting required.
- Must assist frail or disabled patients as needed.
- Driving required between clinic locations.
