Staffing Ratios
Current (during COVID outbreak shortage):
- RN/LPN:
- Days: 1:38
- Nights: 1:38 (low acuity baseline)
- Medication Aides:
- 1 on AM, 1 on PM
- CNA:
- Days: 1:9
- Nights: 1:19
Typical (preferred staffing):
- 2 nurses per “Neighborhood” (~1:19)
- 5–6 CNAs per Neighborhood (~1:6–8)
- Generally well-staffed outside of outbreak periods
Patient Population
- Moderate to severe Alzheimer’s patients
- Deconditioned rehab patients
- 5 comfort care beds (travelers usually not assigned)
Job Duties
- 14–17 admissions/month, rare discharges
- Daily responsibilities include:
- Rounding & documentation
- Passing restricted meds (e.g., narcotics)
- Diabetic assessments
- Fall assessments
- Monthly assessments
- Supervising CNAs
- Assisting with meals (high dysphagia population)
- Treatments: Rare
Requirements
- Certifications: BLS
- Experience: LTC required
Leadership & Support
- Charge Nurse / Team Lead each shift
- Managers available on-call
- Physician available after hours (on-call)
Interdisciplinary Team
Work closely with:
- PT / OT / SLP
- Case Managers
- Social Workers
- Dieticians
Respiratory / Equipment
- No RT on-site
- Nurses manage all treatments
- Equipment includes:
- Oxygen therapy
- CPAP / BiPAP
- Rare use of nebs; occasional inhalers
Pharmacy
- Off-site pharmacy
- Medication dispensing system in use
Scheduling
- Shift: 12 hours (6:45 AM/PM – 7:15)
- Schedule: Created 6 weeks in advance
- Manager tries to honor traveler preferences
- Overtime available
Work Requirements
- Weekend: Every other
- Holidays: Rotating with permanent staff
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Yes
- Between neighborhoods
- Occasionally to comfort care

- Any clean, professional scrubs

Orientation
