Description
š„ Unit Overview
- L&D Beds/Rooms: 11 L&D rooms (also used as triage)
- C-Section Suites: 2 on-unit OR suites
- PACU Bays: 2 recovery bays
- Triage Rooms: 2 designated (4ā5 triage patients/day, not including admissions)
- Postpartum Beds: 17
š Patient Volume
- Deliveries:
- 5ā6 per day
- 150ā180 per month
- Patient Population:
- 30+ weeks gestation
- Stabilize & transfer <30 weeks
š©āāļø Staffing & Ratios (AWHONN Guidelines)
- Intrapartum: 1:1
- Antepartum: 1:1ā3
- Postpartum/Mother-Baby: 1:3ā4
š Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate/Advanced) OR NCC Certification
ā Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years L&D experience
- Some postpartum experience required
- Comfortable with:
- High-risk patients
- Working both L&D & Postpartum
- Circulating in C-sections
- Epic experience preferred (recent use must be noted)
- First-time travelers accepted
- Not accepting only Critical Access Hospital experience
š Drips & Clinical Skills
- Titration Required: Yes
- Common drips:
- Pitocin
- Magnesium
- Insulin (preferred, but trainable)
š„ Support Staff & Coverage
- Charge Nurse (no assignment unless necessary)
- Resource Nurse (when available)
- CST available 24/7
- CNAs in Postpartum (ADLs, vitals, glucose, etc.)
𩺠Provider Coverage
- OB: In-house (day), on-call (night)
- Neonatology:
- Day: Onsite Neonatologist
- Night: Neo APP coverage
- CRNA: 24/7 in-house
- RT: 24/7 support
š„ļø Monitoring & Systems
- EFM System: Epic (CPN), GE Connect
- Tele Techs available
- RNs must recognize rhythm changes (not primary interpreters)
š Scheduling
- Shift: 7 AM ā 7 PM / 7 PM ā 7 AM
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks
- Block scheduling considered (not guaranteed)
- Max 5 consecutive shifts
š Weekend & Holiday
- Weekends:
- Days: Every other Sat/Sun
- Nights: Fri/Sat (as needed)
- Holidays: Rotational
š Floating
- Primary: L&D and Postpartum
- May float hospital-wide for sitter shifts
- Travelers are first to float

- RNs: Navy Blue
- CNAs: Maroon
š Orientation
- 3 days with preceptor (L&D + Postpartum)
