Registered Nurse (RN) – Flex Pool (Med-Surg/Step-Down) | Nights

Position Overview

We are seeking a versatile and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join a Flex Pool team, providing care across multiple medical and surgical units. This role requires adaptability, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to work effectively in diverse patient care environments, including medical-surgical and step-down units.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care across various units including medical-surgical and step-down settings
• Float between assigned departments based on patient care needs
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols
• Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes appropriately
• Utilize EMR systems to document patient care accurately
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (State of Hawaii required prior to start date)
• Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience (flexible up to 10 years preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
• Preferred certifications: PALS, TNCC, ENPC, Procedural Sedation
• Experience with EMR systems such as Meditech or Epic preferred

Schedule & Work Environment

• 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
• Scheduled for 36 hours per week after orientation (hours not guaranteed)
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays
• Floating required to multiple units including:
  • Medical Unit
  • Surgical Acute Unit
  • Cardiovascular Unit (occasionally)

Unit Details & Patient Ratios

• Medical Unit: Up to 77 beds | Ratio: 1:6 (days/evenings), 1:8 (nights)
• Surgical Acute Unit: 18 beds | Ratio: 1:6
• Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds | Ratio: 1:4
• Ratios may vary based on census and staffing needs

Equipment & Systems

• Experience with equipment such as wound vacs and chest tubes preferred
• EMR systems include Meditech and/or Epic
• Medication dispensing systems such as Pyxis

• Unit-specific orientation provided for each department
• Pre-employment onboarding includes required health screening prior to assignment start
• Proof of immunity required; exemptions not accepted
