Job Description: RN – Medical Unit (Night Shift)

Job Type: Contract
Position Urgency: Normal
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Hours: 36 hours/week (following first full week of orientation)
Shift: Nights
Specialty: Nursing – Med-Surg Adult
EMR: EPIC

Position Overview

A Medical Unit is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a night shift assignment. This is a 13-week contract requiring flexibility with shift lengths and scheduled days. There is no guarantee of hours or shift preference.

Candidates who do not currently hold an active Hawaii RN license must apply immediately upon offer acceptance. A valid Hawaii license is required before the assignment begins.

Proof of flu vaccination (or an approved exemption) is required prior to the start of the contract. Vaccination may be completed during the Employee Health clearance appointment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a Medical Unit serving adult patients
  • Operate and manage equipment including:
    • Meditech EMR
    • Pyxis
    • Wound vacuum systems
    • Chest tubes
  • Follow established nursing protocols and safety standards
  • Float as needed to additional units, including:
    • Laulima Unit
    • Cardiovascular Unit
  • Work variable shift lengths and days as assigned

Requirements

Experience

  • 2–10 years of nursing experience required

Licensure

  • Active Hawaii RN license required before start
  • Must apply upon acceptance if not already licensed in Hawaii

Certifications

  • BLS – Required
  • ACLS – Required

Vaccinations

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required

Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit Type: Medical Unit
  • Unit Size: 77 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
    • Days/Evenings: 1:6
    • Nights: 1:8
  • Dress Code: Professional nursing attire
  • Orientation: Unit-specific training provided during the first week

Additional Notes

  • Must arrive on the Thursday before assignment begins to complete mandatory Employee Health clearance on Friday
  • Holiday coverage required
  • Bilingual not required
