Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (NICU/PICU)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist with experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Pediatric experience is strongly preferred.
Requirements
Licensure & Certifications
- DC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) License required prior to start
- Required Certifications (must be current and valid prior to start):
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (based on unit/specialty)
- Chemotherapy certification (based on unit/specialty)
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of specialty experience required
- 3+ years recent experience strongly preferred for first-time travelers
Shift & Scheduling
- 3 or 4 shifts per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- No on-call duties
- Floating within scope allowed (no floating to sister facilities)
- Guaranteed 36 hours/week; overtime available after 48 hours
- Block scheduling not available
Facility & Work Environment
- Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Teaching & Magnet Hospital
- Charting system: Cerner
- Pediatric-focused with 323 inpatient beds including 70 NICU beds
- Dress code: Any solid color scrubs, no logos, child-friendly attire required
Time-Off Policy
- Up to 3 shifts off allowed for 13-week contracts
- If taking a full week off, an additional week must be added to the contract
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification and transcript/diploma (if pending)
- Primary source verification of license
- Physical exam within 30 days of start (including latex allergy info)
- Fit test for N95 or PAPR within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive quantitative titer)
- Hepatitis B series and quantitative titer or declination form
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer)
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including marijuana)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination for tracking purposes
- Completion of facility-specific training modules prior to start
- Professional references (2) dated within past 2 years
- Employment application and skills checklist
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required but 3+ years recent experience is strongly preferred for first-time travelers.
- No block scheduling available.
- Floating is limited to within the facility scope only.
- Parking options vary by shift type (details available onsite).
