Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dialysis Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join a patient-centered renal care team. The PCT will support dialysis treatment operations and provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Charge Nurse (CN). This role plays a vital part in ensuring safe, high-quality dialysis treatments for individuals with renal failure.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provide safe, comfortable, and high-quality dialysis treatments.
- Collect patient vital signs and information before and after treatments.
- Initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis sessions following established protocols.
- Obtain blood samples in accordance with physician orders.
Technical Duties
- Prepare, clean, disinfect, and maintain dialysis machines.
- Perform safety checks and equipment quality control logs per regulations.
- Ensure all treatment equipment meets safety and operational standards.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety policies, infection control guidelines, and PPE requirements.
- Operate under the supervision of nursing leadership and comply with all policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in healthcare and patient support roles.
- Experience in dialysis, phlebotomy, or as a CNA preferred.
- Ability to mix dialysis solutions per protocol.
- Ability to distinguish all primary colors (required for solution mixing and monitoring).
Certifications & Training
- Successful completion of an approved hemodialysis training program (must be completed within required timelines).
- CPR certification required (within 90 days of hire or sooner, depending on state requirements).
- Must obtain Patient Care Technician certification within 18 months of hire and maintain active status thereafter.
- Additional state-specific dialysis technician licensing requirements may apply.
