RN - Neonatal ICU
About Facility:
174 licensed beds
No Trauma Designation
Teaching Hospital? Only Community Schools of Nursing
Chest Pain Center? No, but part of Lee Garvey Chest Pain Network
TJC Stroke accredited
Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
Unit Information:
Minimum Years of Experience required? At least 1 year of experience
Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Unit: 7 beds
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
Age range: babies 32 weeks and above in age.
Typically transfer patients that need a higher level of care to their larger facility
Mostly grower and feeders. They take bubble CPAPs
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:2 and occasionally 1:3 depending on staffing
Required Certifications:
RN: BLS, NRP
Skills required:
Strong NRP skills
Core staff will attend high risk deliveries – experience catching babies is not required for travelers.
Must be comfortable stabilizing babies
Support within the Department:
CNA
Receptionist/HUC – patient registration, visitor mgmt. and unit secretary duties
Charge nurse
Case Manager
RT 24/7
Hospitalist, 24/7
Neonatologist (not always in house but available 24/7)
Lactation Consultants
Remote Tele Monitoring
Telemedicine available for Virtual Consults
Technology/Equipment:
EMR: EPIC
IV Pump: Alaris
Med dispensing: Omnicell
Monitors: Phillips
Floating:
Core staff cross-trains to other units so travelers are not required to float. If they have experience in pediatrics or other units they are more than welcome to float if they would like.
Orientation (facility and unit):
NEO at Airport Center
2 days departmental precepted shifts
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: unit dependent (will not be required to do every other)
No on-call for travelers only
Holiday Expectations: Unit dependent – if they would like to work a holiday they are more than welcome to volunteer.
RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours.
Shift times: 7a-7p; 7p-7a
Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
