Description
Responsibilities
Provide perioperative nursing care including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative support
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams to ensure patient safety during procedures
Maintain sterile fields and ensure proper handling and sterilization of instruments and supplies
Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and site prior to surgery
Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to protocol
Handle and label specimens and cultures per policy
Administer medications and IV therapy safely as per physician orders
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care and pain management
Provide patient and family education and discharge planning
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and interventions
Respond effectively in emergency situations and prioritize patient care needs
Delegate tasks appropriately and supervise support staff
Ensure compliance with infection control practices including hand hygiene
Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant healthcare environment
Participate in continuous learning, training, and professional development
Requirements
Experience
Recent Operating Room (OR) experience required
Strong knowledge of perioperative practices and sterile techniques
Ability to handle surgical instrumentation and assist in complex procedures
Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
Licenses/Certifications
Active Massachusetts RN License
BLS Certification (AHA) required
ACLS Certification (AHA) required within 60 days of hire
CNOR Certification preferred
Education
Associate Degree in Nursing or higher
