Job Overview

• Role: Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU (Cardiovascular ICU)
• Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
• Type: Travel Contract (13 weeks)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week

Schedule

• Shift: Day shift
• Pattern: 3 shifts/week × 12 hours (3x12)
• Weekend: Every other weekend required
• Floating Requirement:
  • Primary: CVICU
  • Then: Step-down unit
  • Then: Med-Surg

You must be flexible and comfortable working across multiple units.

Patient Population

This is high-acuity cardiac ICU care, including:

• Post cardiac surgery patients
• Critically ill cardiac patients needing intensive monitoring
• Advanced life-support devices

Key Responsibilities

• Full ICU-level nursing care:
  • Continuous monitoring
  • Critical decision-making
  • Managing unstable patients
• Pre- and post-operative cardiac care
• Handle emergency situations independently
• Float to other units when needed

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have

• Minimum 2 years CVICU experience
  • Preferably in an academic medical center
• Strong clinical competence in:
  • Cardiac ICU care
  • Critical patient management

Highly Preferred (Big Advantage)

Experience with advanced cardiac devices:

• IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
• Impella device
• ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)

These are specialized ICU skills—not all nurses have them.

Certifications

Required

• RN License (Wisconsin or Compact State)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Education

• Minimum: Associate Degree in Nursing
• Preferred: BSN
