Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Pathologists’ Assistant (PA-ASCP) to join a high-volume hospital clinical laboratory. The ideal candidate will support surgical and autopsy pathology services, ensuring accurate specimen handling, processing, and documentation in a fast-paced environment.

Work Setting:

• Hospital Clinical Laboratory
• Occasional coverage at nearby reference lab (15 minutes away)

Key Responsibilities:

Surgical Pathology:

• Perform macroscopic examination and description of specimens
• Prepare and section tissues for histological processing
• Ensure proper specimen receipt, labeling, and handling

Autopsy Pathology:

• Assist with post-mortem examinations
• Perform tissue sampling for microscopic analysis
• Conduct bone marrow sampling
• Prepare and stain frozen sections

Specimen Processing & Analysis:

• Perform gross and microscopic photography
• Conduct image analysis
• Review patient clinical data (labs, imaging, reports)
• Maintain accurate documentation and workflow efficiency

Requirements:

• PA (ASCP) Certification (Required)
• Graduate of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program
  (Bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s program)
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• First-time travelers accepted

Workload & Environment:

• High-volume lab processing 600–700 blocks daily
• Mix of:
  • Complex surgical cases
  • Small biopsies
  • Outreach specimens
• Fast-paced, detail-oriented environment

Additional Details:

• No weekends or on-call requirements
• Potential floating between hospital and reference lab
• Collaborative pathology team environment
