Required Certifications

ACLS (AHA), AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM), BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) 

✅ Candidate Requirements

• Minimum 3 years L&D experience (post-training)
• Minimum 3 travel assignments (NO first-time travelers)
• 3–5 years total travel experience required
• Experience with:
  • LDRP (required on resume) ⚠️
  • Mother/Baby Couplet Care (MBC)
• Comfortable with:
  • Epic charting
  • OR circulating
  • Scrubbing (REQUIRED for night shift)

OT After 40 – CHOMP LDRP Unit Notes

🚭 Facility Requirement

• CHOMP is a smoke-free facility
• Nicotine/cotinine must be negative
• If positive:
  • Only accepted with valid prescription (e.g., nicotine patch)
  • Otherwise → contract cancellation

📌 Submission Requirements (MANDATORY)

Include with every submission:

• Epic experience (Yes/No + last used date)
• Candidate email address
• Interview availability
• All RTO upfront
  • ❗ No RTO accepted after submission

📜 Certifications Required

• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• Advanced AWHONN (Fetal Monitoring)
• STABLE (preferred)

🏥 Unit Overview

• Unit Type: LDRP / Family Birthing Center
• Beds: 13 total (L&D, PP, Recovery combined)
• Volume:
  • ~100–105 births/month
• Level:
  • Level 1 (≥32 weeks)
  • High-risk cases transferred out

👩‍⚕️ Clinical Expectations

• Must be strong in:
  • Labor & Delivery
  • Postpartum
  • Recovery
• Must handle:
  • Full labor process (no midwives/midlevels)
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines

💉 Drips & Skills

• RNs titrate drips
• Common drips:
  • Magnesium
  • Pitocin
  • Insulin

🧑‍⚕️ Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse:
  • Usually no patient assignment
• May have:
  • Admit/Triage/Resource nurse
• ❗ No nurse aides or surgical techs

👶 Provider Coverage

• Neonatologist:
  • On call (~30 min response)
• OB Hospitalist:
  • In-house ~85% of time
  • Otherwise on-call (~30 min)

📊 Monitoring

• No cardiac telemetry
• RNs read strips
• EFM system: Philips

🕒 Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts (7–7)
• No block scheduling
• Travelers fill schedule gaps

Requirements:

• Weekends: as needed (possibly every other)
• Holidays: required
• Call:
  • Possible for low census
  • Subject to contract cancellation rules

🔄 Floating

Must float between:

• L&D
• Postpartum
• PACU (mothers only)
• OR (circulating)
• Mother/Baby overflow
• Possible sitter assignments

• Must be:
  • Independent
  • Confident
  • Fast-paced & adaptable
• Night shift:
  • Often newer staff → traveler must act as resource
• Strong customer service required
• Expected to stay productive during downtime

Be prepared to answer:

• When was Epic last used? Duration?
• Last L&D assignment?
• Last Postpartum assignment?
• Comfortable switching between L&D & PP?
• Strength in both areas?
