Job Summary – ED / MedSurg Swing RN

Unit / Cost Center: 6000 – ED / MedSurg Swing
Facility Rule:

• 50-mile radius rule applies
• Candidate cannot have worked permanent or PRN at CSH within the last 12 months

• Total Beds: 22
• Patient Ratios:
  • Acute: 1:4
  • Swing Bed: 1:6
  • ED: 1:4
• Common Patient Types: General acute and swing bed patients

Required Experience & Certifications

• Minimum Experience: 1 year MedSurg experience
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS
  • ACLS

Clinical Responsibilities

• Drip Titration: Yes
• Common Drips: Standard titratable/set-rate drips
• Telemetry: Yes
  • RNs read telemetry strips (primarily ED nurse)

Equipment Used

• Respiratory Support:
  • Nebulizers (NEBS)
  • Oxygen (nasal cannula & mask)
  • CPAP (occasionally – patient may bring)
  • Ventilator available in ED only (mainly for stabilization before transfer)

Support Staff

• Charge Nurse: Yes
• House Supervisor: Charge Nurse role may apply
• Nurse Aides: Not specified

Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Shift Times:
  • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Weekly Hours:

• 36 hours per week (3 shifts × 12 hours)

Weekend & Holiday Requirements

• Weekend: Every other weekend
• Holiday: Every other holiday

Floating

• May float to ED holds if needed
• May work as charge nurse

Call / Standby

• Flex time may apply

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Any color allowed
