Description
The PCU at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital is a large, flexible stepdown unit with an estimated 36–48 beds, typically divided into smaller pods of about 8–12 patients. It operates as a mixed-acuity unit, meaning it functions as both PCU and med-surg/telemetry depending on patient needs. Nurses generally see ratios of 1:3–4 for true PCU patients, but assignments can increase to 1:5–6 when caring for lower-acuity patients. The unit uses the **Epic EMR system and has a frequent float expectation to other PCU and med-surg units within the hospital.
