Required Skills / Experience

Minimum 1 year RN experience (surgical required)
Must have:
- Total joint experience
- PCA pump management
- Reversal agents (Narcan)
- Sepsis management
- TPN/Lipid administration
- Narcotic administration

Unit Details

Beds: 48 (across two buildings)
Unit Type: Med Surg / Tele – Surgical focus
Floor: 3rd floor

Patient Ratios

Days: 1:4–6
Nights: 1:5–6
Support Staff:
- LPNs available
- CNAs (may be pulled as sitters; more needed on nights)
- Virtual admission & discharge nurses

Certifications Required

BLS
NIHSS

Patient Population / Common Diagnoses

Neuro: Laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI
General Surgery: Ostomies, hernia repair
Ortho: Total hip/knee replacements (must have experience)
Vascular: Fem-pop bypass, BKA, AKA
Renal: Dialysis (unit located on same floor), dialysis catheters
Other:
- PICC lines
- TPN/Lipids
- Sepsis
- Chronic pain (high narcotic use)
- PCA pumps, occasional epidurals
- IV antibiotics
- Urgent OR admissions

Drips & Telemetry

Titration Required: Heparin
Drips: Titrated per protocol
Telemetry:
- Monitor tech present
- RNs must interpret strips
- Equipment: Draeger

Staffing Structure

Charge Nurse:
- Yes
- Takes reduced assignment
- Nights may be covered by house supervisor

Respiratory / Equipment

CPAP (home units)
Airvo (possible use)
BiPAP (occasionally – stays on unit)
RT manages respiratory support

Scheduling

Shift: 3x12s (7:00 start)
Self-scheduling: Not guaranteed (discuss with manager)
Schedule posted: 6 weeks in advance

Weekend & Holiday

Weekends: Every other (Sat/Sun)
Holidays: Rotation with core staff

Other Requirements

Call/Standby: None
Floating:
- To like units only
- Higher acuity = help role (no patient assignment)
