Nurse Practitioner – VA Disability Evaluations
Position Type: Contract / Per Diem
Practice Setting: Outpatient / Evaluation‑Only
Travel: Up to 10% (local clinic locations as needed)
Position Overview
The Judge Group is seeking licensed Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to perform VA disability evaluations for Veterans applying for service‑connected benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
In this role, providers conduct focused, non‑treatment medical examinations, review medical records, and complete required documentation and medical opinions in accordance with VA guidelines. These evaluations are for disability determination purposes only and do not involve prescribing medications, developing treatment plans, or providing ongoing patient care.
Some documentation may be completed remotely following in‑person examinations. The goal of this role is to deliver accurate, objective, and respectful evaluations that support Veterans through the VA benefits process.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct medical disability examinations for Veterans, including:
- Review of medical history and records
- Focused physical assessments related to claimed conditions
- Evaluate how medical conditions impact a Veteran’s daily functioning and ability to work
- Review diagnostic results, prior medical documentation, and supporting evidence
- Provide objective medical opinions when required based on exam findings and record review
- Complete and submit exam reports using the VA’s web‑based documentation system within required timelines
- Manage assigned case workload and coordinate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure complete and accurate documentation
- Maintain compliance with VA program requirements, HIPAA regulations, and applicable federal guidelines
- Provide scheduling availability and manage exam workflow to meet turnaround expectations
- Travel up to 10% to additional clinic locations, if required
Office / Facility Requirements
- Providers must operate from or have access to a professional medical office or clinical space
- Office space must allow for private, in‑person medical evaluations and maintain patient confidentiality
- ADA‑compliant office space is strongly preferred to ensure accessibility for Veterans with disabilities
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner programслан program
- Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with clinical and QA teams
- Strong computer skills and comfort using web‑based documentation systems
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time‑management skills
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience performing VA disability examinations or Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams
- Background in occupational medicine, disability evaluations, functional assessments, or similar assessment‑based clinical roles
- Experience working with Veteran or military populations
Additional Requirements
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy regulations
- Complete all required VA training, onboarding, and program updates
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
