Nurse Practitioner – VA Disability Evaluations

 

About the Role

 

We are seeking licensed Nurse Practitioners to conduct disability evaluations for Veterans applying for service‑connected benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this position, you will review medical records, perform focused, condition‑specific examinations, and complete standardized documentation used solely for disability determination. This role does not involve prescribing medications or developing treatment plans.

 

Providers may complete portions of documentation remotely following in‑person evaluations. The mission is to deliver a respectful, accurate, and professional assessment experience for every Veteran.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical disability examinations, including history review and focused physical assessments
  • Assess how medical conditions impact daily functioning and occupational capability
  • Review medical records, diagnostic findings, and supporting documentation
  • Provide objective medical opinions when required
  • Document findings using the VA’s web‑based exam platform and submit reports within required timelines
  • Manage caseload and collaborate with Quality Assurance teams to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain compliance with VA program standards, HIPAA, and federal regulations
  • Provide scheduling availability and manage workflow to meet turnaround expectations
  • Travel up to 10% to additional clinic locations as needed

Office / Facility Requirements

  • Access to a professional medical office or clinical space suitable for in‑person evaluations
  • Ability to ensure privacy and confidentiality during examinations
  • ADA‑compliant space strongly preferred to support accessibility for Veterans with disabilities

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license
  • Minimum 1 year of NP clinical experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with clinical teams
  • Strong computer proficiency and comfort with web‑based documentation
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills
