Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – 5 West Med/Surg Oncology
Shift: 18:30–07:00 (Nights) Assignment Type: Travel Contract
Position Overview
The Travel RN will provide high‑quality, compassionate nursing care to adult patients on a combined Medical/Surgical Oncology unit. This role supports a fast‑paced environment caring for individuals with acute medical conditions, post‑operative needs, and oncology‑related diagnoses. The nurse will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence‑based care throughout the night shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care, including assessments, medication administration, and monitoring of patient status.
- Manage care for oncology patients, including those receiving chemotherapy, symptom management, and supportive treatments.
- Provide post‑operative and general med/surg care according to unit protocols.
- Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and support staff to coordinate patient care plans.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and ongoing care needs.
- Maintain infection control standards and adhere to all hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Participate in handoff reports and contribute to a positive, team‑focused work environment
Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or compact license if applicable).
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent Med/Surg experience; oncology experience strongly preferred.
- BLS certification required; ACLS and ONS/chemotherapy certification preferred (varies by facility).
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work independently on night shift.
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), such as Epic or Cerner, is beneficial.
Typical Patient Population
- Adult oncology patients (new diagnoses, active treatment, symptom management).
- Med/Surg patients with acute or chronic medical conditions.
- Post‑operative patients requiring overnight monitoring.
- Patients requiring telemetry monitoring (if applicable to the unit).
