Description

Position Overview

The Nurse Educator is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs across the Maternal Child Health (MCH) service line. This role supports clinical excellence and professional development for nursing staff across Labor & Delivery (L&D), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Mother-Baby Unit (MBU), and Pediatrics (Peds).

 

The Educator ensures evidence-based practice, regulatory compliance, and competency validation to promote high-quality patient outcomes for maternal and neonatal populations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical education and support across all inpatient MCH units, including:
    • Labor & Delivery (L&D)
    • NICU
    • Postpartum / Mother-Baby (MBU)
    • Pediatrics
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver orientation programs, ongoing education, and competency assessments for nursing staff.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource in maternal and neonatal care, with a strong focus on L&D practices.
  • Support implementation of evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify educational needs, skill gaps, and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with NYCHH standards, Joint Commission requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in policy development, clinical audits, and staff development initiatives.
  • Provide hands-on clinical support and mentoring to staff, including simulation-based training when applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with active New York State license
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required, Master’s preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of strong Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience (REQUIRED)
  • Demonstrated experience in maternal-child health nursing (L&D, NICU, postpartum)
  • Prior experience in staff education, precepting, or clinical leadership preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in one or more of the following:
    • Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB)
    • Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC)
    • Maternal Newborn Nursing (RNC-MNN)
  • Experience working in a large acute care or teaching hospital environment
  • Familiarity with NYCHH systems, Epic EMR, and regulatory frameworks
Compliance deadline is 48 hours post offer. This is a contract position to cover a leave of absence.
