Job Description: RN – Flex Pool (Days)

Job Type: Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Days (0645–1915), 36 hours/week after first week of orientation
Specialty: Nursing
Subspecialties: Med-Surg Adult, Step-Down
Minimum Experience: 2–10 years

Position Overview

The Flex Pool Registered Nurse provides patient care across multiple medical and surgical units based on staffing needs. This role requires adaptability, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment. Candidates must hold an active Hawaii RN license by the start of the assignment.

Note: Medical and religious exemption requests are not accepted in place of documented proof of immunity.

Responsibilities

  • Float between designated medical and surgical units as assigned
  • Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care in alignment with facility standards
  • Perform assessments, administer medications, and provide treatment interventions
  • Monitor patients with varied acuity, including those with wound vacs, chest tubes, and other specialized equipment
  • Document patient care using the facility's EMR system
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care

Unit Details

The RN may float to:

  • Medical Unit – 77 beds
  • Surgical Acute (Laulima) Unit – 18 beds
  • Cardiovascular Unit – 15 beds (rarely)

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Medical Unit:
    • Days/Eves: 1:6
    • Nights: 1:8
  • Laulima: 1:6
  • Cardiovascular: 1:4
    Ratios may vary due to staffing changes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–10 years of acute care nursing experience
  • Flexibility to float between units
  • Ability to manage varied patient loads and acuity levels
  • Experience with:
    • Meditech EMR
    • Pyxis medication system
    • Wound vacs
    • Chest tubes

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required:
    • Active RN license (HI license required by assignment start date)
    • BLS
  • Preferred:
    • ACLS
    • PALS
    • Procedural Sedation
    • TNCC
    • ENPC

Schedule & Requirements

  • 12-hour Day Shifts (0645–1915)
  • Orientation provided for each assigned unit
  • Holiday coverage required
  • Must be available to arrive the Thursday prior to the assignment start for mandatory employee health processing on Friday

Dress Code

  • Professional nursing attire; clean scrubs required
