Schedule Notes:

M-F 7:00 am – 5:30 PM 

 

Looking for someone to work in EP primarily but also float to cover cath lab. 

 

Must have Electrophysiology experience besides the Cath lab experience. (ablations, LAAOs, etc.) 

 

Scrub a bonus 

 

May be asked to float to cover Cath/EP and possibly TEE/CVs. 

 

If they cover TEE/CVs, it would be intra-procedure only, and the primary responsibility is documenting timeout, procedure tracking, and circulating the room for minor things that may be needed. While it should be rare that we would need them to cover TEE/CVs, Manager can review further.

The RN EP Lab is responsible for assisting with all procedures performed in the EP lab. This position must be competent in the use of the EP monitoring/stimulation system, Intra cardiac Echo and 3D mapping systems. This position must also be competent in sterile technique and will assist the Physician with the implantation of Permanent Pacemakers, ICD’s and Bi-V-ICD’s. The position must demonstrate a high degree of understanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias and all invasive EP procedures and must be competent in the operation and troubleshooting of the X-ray system. The RN EP Lab will assist in the cleaning and restocking of the lab as needed.

Improves quality by monitoring the performance of EP procedures, offering suggestions for improvement, and taking actions to meet customer needs, and assuring work is performed consistent to quality standards. Communicates in a clear and effective manner to physician, staff and patients. Responds in a calm and efficient manner to all emergency situations that may arise in the EP lab. Respects the confidential nature of all aspects of patient care and business issues as outlined in hospital policies. Displays professional behavior at all times in the workplace. Adheres to safety standards, policies and procedures. Accepts responsibility for the continuous improvement of workplace safety by reporting unsafe conditions and suggesting improvements. Understands that patients may be apprehensive or fearful of invasive EP procedures and uses education and empathy to alleviate or reduce apprehension and fear.

 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 


1. Performs Procedures - Follows applicable policies and operated equipment per manufacturer’s instructions to safely perform Cath and EP lab studies and procedures. Monitors patient, staff, and physician radiation exposure and keeps exposure levels as low as reasonably achievable. Demonstrates an understanding of all EP Lab procedures, the equipment and supplies needed, and the indications for performing each procedure. Demonstrates ability to assist physician using appropriate sterile technique for all procedures performed in EP Lab. Administers medications, defibrillation or other treatments as ordered by physician and within scope of practice. Educates patient regarding procedure and ensures patient comfort and co-operation during the procedure.
 

 


Knowledge/Skills: 

 

Demonstrates a high degree of understanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmia’s, patient parameters, and the management of cardiac complications. Demonstrates an understanding of all invasive EP procedures, the equipment and supplies needed for each procedure, and the indications for performing each procedure. Demonstrates an understanding of all device implantation procedures, the equipment and supplies needed for each procedure using appropriate sterile technique.
 

Knowledge of the professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. Skill in
identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records and writing reports. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, hospital, medical staff and the public. Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
 

2. Accurately enters patient demographics into physiological monitoring and x-ray equipment. Collects and records patient data during procedures and accurately relays this information to receiving units. Collects and accurately records patient billing information. Ensures patient tracking data is correctly updated. Assists with room stocking and ensures inventory is correctly maintained.
