Job Overview
We are hiring a Clinical Document Improvement Specialist (RN) to support a hospital’s Quality & Patient Safety team in Modesto, CA. This is a non-bedside role focused on reviewing clinical documentation, coordinating peer review processes, and ensuring compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
This is a strong opportunity for an RN with quality, patient safety, or peer review experience looking to step away from bedside care.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records to assess documentation accuracy, quality of care, and compliance with clinical standards
- Coordinate clinical peer review processes including case identification, preparation, and tracking
- Prepare detailed case summaries for physician review committees
- Support and facilitate multidisciplinary peer review meetings
- Ensure documentation meets Joint Commission, CMS, and hospital compliance standards
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical leadership on quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all peer review activities
Requirements
- Active RN license (or equivalent clinical license)
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, peer review, or clinical performance improvement
- Experience reviewing medical records for quality, compliance, and clinical standards
- Strong understanding of hospital regulatory/accreditation standards (Joint Commission, CMS)
- Experience coordinating clinical reviews or working with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), Quality, or Patient Safety departments
- Prior involvement in hospital peer review programs
- Experience facilitating physician review committees or case review meetings
- Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies
