Job Description: Registered Nurse – Flex Pool (Nights)

Job Type: Contract

Overview

This contract position requires an experienced Registered Nurse to support a Flex Pool, floating between multiple medical and surgical units. Candidates who do not already possess an active Hawaii RN license must apply immediately upon offer acceptance and must hold the license prior to the assignment start.

Note: Medical and religious exemption requests will not be accepted in lieu of documented proof of immunity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care across multiple units, including Medical, Surgical (Laulima Unit), and Cardiovascular areas.
  • Deliver care according to professional standards, facility protocols, and state regulations.
  • Float between assigned units based on staffing needs.
  • Use unit equipment and systems effectively, including Meditech EMR, Pyxis, Wound Vacs, and Chest Tubes.
  • Participate in orientation and unit-specific training.

Schedule

  • Shift: Nights
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts (1845–0715), 36 hours per week after initial orientation
  • Note: Hours are not guaranteed.
  • Holiday coverage: Required

Unit Details

Floating Units & Bed Count:

  • Medical Unit: 77 beds
  • Laulima (Surgical Acute): 18 beds
  • Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Medical Unit:
    • Days/Eves: 1:6
    • Nights: 1:8
  • Laulima: 1:6
  • Cardiovascular: 1:4
    Ratios may vary depending on staffing needs.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Experience: 2–10 years of nursing experience
  • Strong clinical skills in adult med-surg and step-down environments
  • Ability to float safely and efficiently between units

Licensure & Certifications

Required:

  • BLS
  • Active Hawaii RN License (must be obtained prior to start)

Preferred:

  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • Procedural Sedation
  • TNCC
  • ENPC

Dress Code

  • Professional nursing attire
  • Clean scrubs
