Description
RN - LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
Location: Nantucket, MA
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (05/11/2026 – 08/08/2026)
Shift: 12-Hour Rotating Shifts | 36 Hours Weekly
Job Summary
Seeking an adaptable and highly skilled LDRP RN. On a small island, the LDRP unit requires "cradle-to-grave" obstetrical expertise. You will manage the entire birthing process in a single-room maternity care setting, from the first contraction through transition, delivery, and immediate postpartum/newborn care. This role is perfect for a nurse who enjoys autonomy and the unique clinical challenges of island medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Labor & Delivery: Monitor maternal and fetal well-being using electronic fetal monitoring (EFM); manage active labor, assist with spontaneous vaginal deliveries, and prepare for emergent Cesarean sections.
- Postpartum & Newborn Care: Provide couplet care for the mother and neonate; manage postpartum recovery, breastfeeding support, and neonatal stabilization.
- Triage: Evaluate expectant mothers presenting for preterm labor, ruptured membranes, or other obstetric complications.
- Epic Documentation: Maintain precise records within the Epic system for all phases of the birthing process.
- Island Logistics: Work as part of a small, tight-knit team where flexibility and cross-training in all areas of maternal-child health are essential.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum care is strictly required.
- Licensure: Active Massachusetts (MA) RN License.
- Certifications: AHA BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required.
- Technical Skills: Epic EMR experience is required.
- Flexibility: Must be willing to work rotating shifts (Days/Nights) to support the unit's 24/7 coverage.
Unit & Facility Details
- Setting: Critical Access Hospital 30 miles at sea.
- Shift: 3x12-hour rotating shifts.
- Urgency: Critical Order (Level 1)
Housing & Perks:
- Free Housing: This contract includes shared housing provided at no cost—a massive benefit given the extremely high cost of seasonal rentals on the island in the summer.
- Summer on the Island: Your contract covers the peak of Nantucket’s summer season (May through August). You will have the opportunity to experience the island’s world-class beaches and historic charm during your off-hours.
Clinical Spotlight: The LDRP Generalist
In a traditional large hospital, you might stay in a labor room all day. On Nantucket, you are the LDRP Generalist. You must be equally comfortable coaching a mother through a difficult transition, performing a neonatal assessment, and managing a postpartum hemorrhage. Because of the island's isolation, your NRP skills are vital; if a neonate requires stabilization for transport to the mainland, you are the primary line of defense.
Nantucket in the summer is a bucket-list destination for many travelers. Since this role requires rotating shifts and provides shared housing,
